It’s no surprise that this is a very busy week at TB&B. I have a full house of wonderful dogs, spending Thanksgiving with me while their people are elsewhere. The house (a small one as you all know) seems more full, more often than usual, since everyone THINKS they want to go outside to play in the snow, but they almost immediately want to come back in, once those little paws get icy. The cats have barely budged from their perches in the utility room. I have a constant laundry full of towels going, not only the wet ones from wiping many paws often, but I also warm towels in the dryer then tuck them in crates and on dogbeds; try it, your dogs will love it. Popular spots are in front of the fire, gazing at the flames like their wolf forebears; en masse on the couch (the higher on the pillows the better, must be a hierarchy thing); on chairs looking out on the snowy yard; by the french doors watching the bird feeder. All of this sloth and sprawl doesn’t exactly make the human caretaker here feel very ambitious. I did manage to rally a group of loyal friends to come out in the cold and snow yesterday to help raise the walls (eighty bales of straw) of the new Goat and Chicken Manor to-be; GO STRAWBALE TEAM! Meanwhile the goats are snuggled in their dogloo, which is heaped with bedding, wearing their donated fleece vests, munching many holiday treats, and enjoying hot water schlepped out twice daily by yours truly. The dogs keep me plenty busy preparing their various diets, monitoring their special needs (I have a sweet boy Corgi “Nigel”, in from CA, who sustained a radius fracture the week before he came to board, and is on limited activity, much to his dismay), and otherwise keeping them warm, healthy, and happy. But that’s OK with me, because I think there is no greater calling (at least for me) then tending creatures. So may everyone have a wonderful holiday, and for those of you who have trusted me with your dogs’ care this week, I thank you. Please know that they are all doing well and will enjoy a special feast on Thursday….
